A Camera that’s Pocket Friendly

You will definitely love the new Flip Mino HD if you enjoyed its predecessors. Although the new device is not very different from the earlier versions, there are certain new features that make the new version more worthy.

The new pocket camera seems to be slim; it is about 1.5 inches slimmer than the older models of the series. It is stunning to look at, thanks to its metal body. The soft rounded edges make it comfortable to hold even with one hand. It is a good change from the sharp edged plastic body.

The new screen is sharper and bigger; it has a video resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is 2 inches in width. However, the best feature of the new Mino HD is its internal memory capacity. It is now a whopping 8GB, exactly double as compared to the previous one. One can enjoy two hours of video which was earlier confined to paltry 60 minutes. After the take-over of Flip by Cisco, certain drastic changes have been made to almost all aspects of the camera. The improved features of the camera are surely a sign of the same. The processor speed has been enhanced too.

A new feature is the HDMI port that enables sharing of videos on HD screens. Although this port was present in the previous models, it was closed with an ugly-looking cover. Now there is a small switch that needs to be pressed to swing it open and close. Smart eh! The sad part is that the new model does not come with a HDMI cable. You need to buy the cable separately.

However, some features are exactly the same as they were in the older models. The sensor, lens, and the extremely sensitive touch pads that get activated by an accidental touch are all exactly the same as in the previous versions. These features are very infuriating. The sensor is fine for close up shots in perfect lighting. However, under low-light conditions, the results are hazy. The camera does not have optical zoom so one cannot take stills.

It is one of the simplest and easy to use pocket cameras suitable for recording videos. Plus, it suits your wallet too. The Kodak models are superior yet you cannot just ignore the Flip. However, for the Flip to survive the intense competition from smart phones and ipod nano that are known for their superb performance, the flaws will have to be taken care of soon.
